Emory Women's Track & Field Take Second at Mountain Laurel Invitational

The Emory University Women's Track and Field team won eight of the 14 events it competed in at the Mountain Laurel Invitational at Sewanee University Friday evening, finishing second out of eight schools at the meet. The Eagles scored 194.5 team points, just 10.5 points shy of first place Birmingham-Southern.

Sophomore Dani Bland led the way for Emory on the night, winning both the 100m and 200m Dashes. Bland posted a time of 12.18 in the 100m before clocking a 24.66 in the 200m.

Freshman Gabrielle Davis turned in a time of 15.91 to win the 110m Hurdles while sophomore Kaylee Slade took home the top spot in the 3000m Steeplechase in a time of 11:57.64. In the 800m Run, fellow sophomore Radhika Shah posted a time of 2:20.84 to win the event by over three seconds.

Freshmen Kaitlyn Iwanowicz and Isabel Saridakis led the Eagles in the field events, claiming wins in the long jump and pole vault. Iwanowicz recorded a mark 4.93m to edge out teammate Davis in the long jump while Saridakis cleared the bar at 3.20m.

Junior Dyess Verfurth closed out the competition on the evening, winning Emory's eighth and final event in the 3000m Run, finishing in a time of 11:09.62.

The Eagles return to action next weekend with the University Athletic Association Outdoor Championships from April 22nd and 23rd on the campus of the University of Chicago.
