Emory Women's Track & Field Claim 13 Event Wins at Mountain Laurel Invitational

The Emory University Women's Track and Field team, ranked sixth in the latest USTFCCCA National Division III rankings, put forth a dominating showing at Sewanee's Mountain Laurel Invitational on Friday, winning 13 events on the evening and scoring 317.50 team points. Birmingham-Southern was the next closest team score with 78.

In the field events, the Eagles were event winners in five of the eight events contested and finished second in four of them. Winning events for the Blue and Gold were freshman Leelah Wilburn in the shot put (11.34m), freshman Rebekah Bondi in the long jump (5.22m), sophomore Nyla Lindo in the high jump (1.50m), sophomore Isabel Saridakis in the pole vault (3.50m) and junior Paris Wagner in the hammer throw (44.73m).

Wilburn added a second place effort in the discus at 38.50m while sophomore Amy Hunter was second in the triple jump at 10.80m as were freshman Andi Breitowich in the pole vault (3.35m) and freshman Taylor Robinson in the javelin (33.27m).

The Eagles were equally as strong in the track events, taking home top honors in eight of the 11 events including six individual first place performances. Juniors Dilys Osei and Dani Bland were dual winners on the evening with Osei winning the 100m Hurdles (15.24) and 400m Hurdles (1:03.74) with Bland posting top marks in both the 100m (12.49) and 200m (25.20) Dashes. Senior Erica Goldman claimed first in the 400m Dash with a time of 56.64 and in the 3000m Steeplechase, junior Kaylee Slade was first in a time of 12:07.55.

Emory also swept both relay events as Osei, Bland, Bondi and senior Julia Leventhal posted a season-best mark of 47.89 in the 4x100m, which ranks fifth nationally, and in the 4x400m, sophomores Nicole Steiner, Ileana Zeissner, Meredith Hughes and freshman Karla Balsalobre took the event at 4:16.25.

The Eagles will compete at Georgia Tech's Invitational next weekend in the final tune up before the UAA Outdoor Championships at Carnegie Mellon on April 28th and 29th.
