Gabrielle Stravach Wins Mile Run at Samford Open

The Emory University Track and Field teams rounded out the weekend on Saturday with the Samford Open at the Crossplex in Birmingham, AL.

Senior Gabrielle Stravach impressed in the Mile Run to lead the Emory women at the meet. In a field comprised of mostly Division I athletes, Stravach came in first place with a season-best time of 5:01.12, the second fastest time in school history. She added a season-best mark in the 800m Run, finishing fourth at 2:15.68.

Junior Dilys Osei put forth a strong showing on the afternoon, setting a new personal-best in the 60m Dash at 8.09 and recorded a season-best mark in the 60m Hurdles, placing 15th overall at 9.25. And in the 5000m Run, freshman Carrie McIntyre registered a time of 18:29.22 to finish fourth.

The women's 4x400m Relay team featuring Osei, junior Dani Bland, sophomore Kaitlyn Leonard and senior Erica Goldman was second overall in the event as the Eagles closed out the meet, finishing just .45 seconds behind SE Louisiana and turning in the eighth-fastest mark in program history at 3:53.62.

Junior Bennett Shaw, sophomore Samuel Branson and freshman Kyle Fawzi highlighted the Emory men on Saturday, posting season-best times in their respective events. Shaw was seventh overall in the 5000m Run in a time of 15:25.37, Branson was sixth in the 3000m Run at 8:41.80 and Fawzi was 10th in the 800m Run at 1:58.46.

Next up for the Eagles will be the Sewanee Indoor Invitational on Saturday, February 17th. The meet represents the final tune up before the UAA Championships on February 24th and 25th at Case Western Reserve University
