Dani Bland & Ariana Newhouse Named to Google Cloud Academic All-District Team

Emory University women's track and field seniors Dani Bland and Ariana Newhouse made their first career appearances on the Google Cloud College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Cross Country/Track & Field Team Tuesday afternoon as it was announced via press release by the organization.

The announcement comes after the duo helped the Eagles record their second straight top-seven finish at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships as Emory placed seventh overall with 29 team points.

Bland put a bow on a stellar career as she collected two All-America honors at the meet, pushing her career total to 12 combined between indoor and outdoor, the most by an athlete in program history. Bland registered her second consecutive national runner-up effort in the 100m Dash and was a member of the 4x100m relay that finished third with a school record time of 46.37.

In addition to her success at national meets, Bland was named the University Athletic Association Most Outstanding Performer of the Year three times and captured 14 UAA event titles and 21 All-UAA finishes over her four years. A 23-time USTFCCCA All-Region selection, Bland currently holds school records in seven different events and earlier this spring, graduated with a degree in Political Science holding a 3.58 GPA and was named as a member of the Emory 100 Senior Honorary.

Newhouse reached the podium as well this past weekend in Geneva, OH as she helped the Eagles' 4x400m relay team to an eighth place finish in the event. The All-America honor gave Newhouse five in her career and the fourth as a member of the 4x400m relay which includes a national indoor runner-up finish in 2016. The UAA Outdoor Rookie of the Year in 2016, Newhouse was a two-time UAA Champion winning the outdoor 400m as a freshman and the 4x100m relay as a junior and was a nine-time All-UAA performer across her four campaigns. A 12-time USTFCCCA All-Region honoree, Newhouse etched her place in the Emory record books as she's the current record holder in the outdoor 400m Dash at 55.71. A six-time UAA All-Academic Team selection, Newhouse registered a 3.94 GPA as an English and Creative Writing double major.

Both runners will now be placed on the national ballot for a chance to be named an Academic All-American. The Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America Cross Country/Track & Field Division III teams will be announced on Tuesday, June 25th.
