Women's Track & Field Takes Part in UAB Spring Invitational

The Emory University women's track and field team continued its outdoor season this weekend with the UAB Spring Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama. The Eagles placed 10th at the meet with 21 team points.

Emory was one of 18 schools to compete at the meet, along with Alabama State, Samford, West Alabama, Jacksonville State, Tuskegee, ETSU, Point University, Alabama A&M, UAG, Lipscomb, Montevallo, Birmingham-Southern, Auburn-Montgomery, Hope College, Tulane, Chattanooga, Arkansas State and host UAB.

The meet began with a short slate Friday afternoon. Taylor Robinson and Laura Sheckter highlighted the Eagles in the field events with Robinson posting a 30.69m mark in the javelin and Sheckter recording a 11.09m mark in the shot put. Over on the track, Annika Urban ran a 4:44.37 to lead the Eagles in the 1500m while Christina Dwier clocked in at 12:43.29 in the 3000m Steeplechase.

On Saturday, the team had several standout performances on the track including season-best times by Shannon Marsh in the 5000m Run (18:08.01), Hannah Lansberry in the 400m Dash (1:01.42), Rebekah Bondi in the 100m Dash (12.24), Lauren Cunild in the 800m Run (2:15.89), Claire Evans in the 400m Hurdles (1:07.44), Jessica Barbarosh in the 200m Dash (26.10) and the 4x400m Relay team of Lansberry, Cunild, Evans and Michelle Rosenblum (4:07.00).

Other notable marks included Alex Devaux in the discus (30.68m), Bondi in the long jump (5.32m), Evans in the 100m Hurdles (17.24) and the 4x100m Relay quartet of Rosenblum, Barbarosh, Bondi and Sydney Mercurio (49.64).

Emory is scheduled to compete in a pair of meets next weekend with the Flames Invitational at Lee University and the Berry Field Day Invitational.
