Emory Volleyball Sweeps Hendrix

The No. 10-ranked Emory volleyball team captured the first of two Sunday matches played on the Birmingham Southern College campus with a sweep of Hendrix College. The Eagles nailed down their 20th victory in 25 decisions with a 25-23, 25-10, 25-18 verdict over the Warriors who slipped to 11-15.

Emory concluded the contest with a .322 hitting percentage (41-13—87) compared to HC's .154 (33-19—91).  It represented the 12th time this year that the Eagles had hit .300 or higher and the 20th that they enjoyed an advantage over their opposition in attack percentage.  Emory held a 37-31 edge in digs and a 7-2 margin in total blocks.

Sophomore Sara Carr, playing in her hometown, continued her stellar play, leading all players with 13 kills, her fifth straight and 11th match on the season with double-figure kills.  Carr closed out the bout hitting .400 (13-3—25) and was second on the squad with nine digs. Freshman Leah Saunders was next on the team's scoresheet with nine terminations.  Junior Mady Arles doled out 23 assists while sophomore Elyse Thompson registered a team-leading 10 digs.

Emory was to play host Birmingham Southern later Sunday in a scheduled 5:00 pm (EDT) start.
