Emory Volleyball Tops Brandeis In Quarterfinals Of UAA Championships

The No. 11-ranked Emory volleyball team opened play at the University Athletic Association Championships on a successful note Friday, recording a sweep over Brandeis in the quarterfinals.  The Eagles raised their overall record to 22-6 following a 25-23, 25-14, 25-22, decision over the Judges who fell to 11-17.

In what proved to be a defensive battle, Emory finished with a .202 hitting percentage (43-20—114) compared to Brandeis' .085 (26-17—106), the 10th time this year the Eagles had limited their opponent to less than .100. Emory held a 54-46 edge in digs while the Judges held the upper hand in total blocks, 8-5.

Emory senior Karissa Dzurik led all players with 12 kills, her 19th double-figure match of the season, while senior Sydney Leimbach added 10 terminations to cause, her fifth performance in double digits.  Sophomore Leah Saunders posted eight successful attack attempts to go along with a match-best 15 digs. Senior setter Mady Arles dished out 32 assists and contributed eight digs.

Emory advances to Friday's semifinals, slated to start at 4:00 pm, against either Carnegie Mellon or Case Western Reserve.
