Emory Volleyball Tops No. 14 Christopher Newport - Moves Record To 4-0

The No. 1-ranked Emory University volleyball team opened its participation at the Berry National Invitational on a successful note Friday afternoon, coming away with a victory over Christopher Newport. The Eagles won for the fourth time in as many starts after topping the No. 14-ranked Captains by a 3-0 count (25-22, 25-22, 25-19).

Senior outside hitter Morgan McKnight topped all players with 11 kills, her fourth consecutive outings in double figures in that category, and finished with a .269 (11-4—26) hitting percentage. Sophomore Tara Martin recorded a .409 attack percentage on the strength on nine terminations with no errors in 22 swings, and also chipped in six digs and a pair of block assists. Sophomore Roisin O'Dowd totaled five kills and three block assists while freshman Amanda Meyer tied for match honors with four (3-1) total blocks.  Freshman setter Cassie Srb doled out 34 assists while senior Elyse Thompson led all performers with 11 digs. 

The Eagles enjoyed an edge in hitting percentage, turning in a mark of .248 (43-16—109) compared to CNU's effort of .163 (29-14—92).  Emory finished with a slight 43-40 advantage in digs while the Captains held a 9-8 margin in total blocks.

Emory returns to action on Saturday when it tangles with Covenant College in a 3:00 pm start, followed by a 5:00 pm showdown against host and No. 9-ranked Berry.
