Tara Martin Earns UAA Volleyball Honor

Emory University sophomore Tara Martin (Jacksonville Beach, FL) has been named by the University Athletic Association as the Volleyball Co-Hitter of the Week following her performance at the Berry College National Invitational.  It is the first time in her career that she has been selected for the honor.  Martin shares the award with Erika Foose of Carnegie Mellon University.

The 5-foot-9 Martin was tabbed as Invitational Co-MVP after helping the No. 1-ranked Eagles to a 3-0 record.  She tied for the team lead with an average of 3.20 kills over 10 sets of action while hitting .333 (32-8--72) over the three contests. In addition, she averaged 1.40 digs and 0.40 blocks per games.

Martin opened the Invitational second on the squad with nine terminations and hitting .409 (9-0--22) in a 3-0 decision over No. 14 Christopher Newport.  Martin also chipped in six digs and a pair of block assists against the Captains.  She followed that effort by producing a match-high eight kills, posting an attack percentage of .583 (8-1--12), over two sets in a sweep of Covenant College. In the finale of the Invitational against No. 9-ranked and host Berry, Martin was one of the team's three double-figure terminators, tying for second on the club with a career-best 15 kills in a 3-2 outcome over the Vikings. She added five digs and a pair of block assists as Emory raised its overall record to 6-0.

So far this year, Tara has competed in 21 of the team's 22 sets and is tied for first on the club and second among UAA players with an average of 3.05 kills per game while hitting a squad-high .336 (64-14--149), good for 10th on the league ladder.
