Emory Vollleyball Sweeps Hendrix - McKnight Records 1000th Career Kill

The No. 1-ranked Emory University volleyball team captured its ninth win at home in as many decisions Friday evening with a sweep of South Region foe Hendrix College. The Eagles saw their overall record improve to 18-1 following a 25-21, 25-23, 25-17 verdict over the Warriors who slipped to 14-4.

The highlight of the evening came when senior Morgan McKnight notch her 1,000th career kill in the third set. McKnight, who entered the evening with 988 terminations to her credit, totaled 14 successful attack attempts, upping her total to 1,002. She becomes the 19th player in program history to accomplish that feat.  McKnight, who dialed up her 11th match of the year with double figure kills, hit .353 (14-2—34) for the match and chipped in four digs. Sophomore Tara Martin paced the Eagles' attack with a match-best 15 kills, her eighth outing with double digits, and finished with a fine .444 hitting (15-3—27) mark.

Emory enjoyed an edge in hitting for the 18th time this season, finishing with a mark of. 218 (45-19—119) vs. the Warriors' .167 (32-15—102).  Hendrix posted 50 digs to Emory's 49, with senior Elyse Thompson leading the Eagles with 15, while both squads tallied five total blocks. Freshman setter Cassie Srb dished out 33 assists and contributed five kills and five digs to the cause.


The Eagles have a quick turnaround as they board a plane to Cleveland tomorrow to compete at the University Round Robin 3 on Sunday.  Emory will square off against host Case Western Reserve at 10:00 am before clashing with No. 3 Chicago at 2:00 pm.
