Emory Volleyball Earns USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

The 2019 Emory volleyball squad has been named a recipient of the United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award.

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.

It marks the 11th straight season and 19th overall the Emory has earned a berth on the Team Academic Award.  Emory had eight players represented on the University Athletic Association's Fall All-Academic Team, including senior Maureen Schick who garnered Second Team Academic All-America honors as chosen by the College of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

All totaled, 1,313 teams were recognized for the Team Academic Award. In terms of subgroups, girls high school led the way with 461 recipients. In all three NCAA Women's Divisions, over 50% of the membership won the award, led by 68% in DI, 57% in DII and 53% in DIII. In the emerging sport of beach volleyball, 49% of teams won the award and in the fastest growing sector of Collegiate Men, 38 schools were honored, doubling the number from the previous year.

Emory set a season program record for winning percentage (.918), compiling an overall record of 33-4, the 13th straight campaign of 30 or more wins.  The Eagles captured the UAA title and advanced to the finals of the NCAA D-III Championships.
