Eagles Drop Final Match of UAA Round Robin to Chicago

The Emory University volleyball team dropped the final match of the first UAA Round Robin to Chicago on Sunday afternoon in St. Louis, MO. The Eagles fall to 7-3 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.

A competitive straight set match that saw Emory fall 25-17, 25-23, 25-22 was defined by strong play at the net from the Maroons and a struggle to put points away from the Eagles. Sophomore Alana Dawson led the team in kills for the sixth time this season, this time putting up 12 kills on a .357 hitting percentage (12-2--28). Junior Amanda Meyer continued to be a force in the middle with a team-high four blocks while sophomore Lily Martin poured in three blocks of her own. Freshman Olivia Rabinowitz got the bulk of the setting responsibilities contributing 25 assists as well as five digs.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the first set but two separate runs of five or more for the Maroons saw them take the first set comfortably at 25-17. The second set started with more of the same as Chicago jumped out to a 6-1 lead but the Eagles weren't done battling. A 6-0 run by the Eagles, fueled by a strong service run from sophomore Deborah Hong, saw Emory take a 17-14 lead but it wouldn't be enough as the Maroons would score three straight to close the set 25-23. The third set was another back-and-forth affair but the Maroons proved to be too much for the Eagles with Chicago eventually pulling away 25-22 to win the match.

The Eagles are back in action Tuesday, September 27th when they travel to Cleveland, TN in hopes of a bounce back match against Lee University.
