Emory Women's Cross Country 24th At NCAA Championships

The Emory women's cross country team closed out its season Saturday at the NCAA D-III Championships. The event was held at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Kentucky.

The No. 19-ranked Eagles registered a 24th-place finish out of 32 teams with a total of 536 points.  No. 1 Johns Hopkins brought home the team title with 128 points while No. 4 Washington University claimed runner-up honors with 202 points.  No. 3 SUNY Geneseo was third (214 pts.), and rounding out the top five were Williams (232 pts.) and MIT (234 pts.).

Junior Gabrielle Stravach ranked as the team's No. 1 runner for the seventh time in as many outings this year, as she covered the 6K course in a time of 21:41, good for 59th place overall out of 280 runners.  Stravach's effort represented her second-best career time.  Junior Tru Powell was the next Emory runner to appear on the leader board, with her showing of 22:24.2 her second-best mark and that ranked 170th in the field.  Freshman Meredith Hughes was just a shade behind Powell, recording a season-best time of 22:24.4. Senior Mia Eisenhandler's traversed the course in 22:27 (second-best time), which was 176th, while classmate Michelle Kagei rounded out the team's scorers, posting a mark of 22:39, which represented her second-best career effort.  Other Emory competitors included junior Megan Waples (22:49) and sophomore Maeve Andrews (22:51).

Amy Regan of Stevens Institute was the top runner with a mark of 20:16.
