Emory Women's Cross Country Races To First Place At Georgia DIII Invitational

The No. 22-ranked Emory women's cross country opened its 2017 campaign Friday evening with a first-place performance at the Georgia DIII Invitational.  The meet was hosted by Berry College.

The Eagles paced the five-team field with 22 points.  Berry finished runner-up with 46 points while Covenant College ranked third with 78 points.  Piedmont College (99 pts.) and Wesleyan (155 pts.) rounded out the competing squads.

Senior Gabrielle Stravach topped the 72-runner field with a 6k showing of 22:44.  Junior Maeve Andrews finished No. 2 overall with an effort of 23:48.  Freshman Abby Durfee was the No. 3 Eagle to cross the finish with her time of 24:32.8 placing her fifth.  Sophomore Meredith Hughes (24:32.9) and senior Hanna Saadegh-Vaziri (24:45) closed out the team's scorers, holding down the Nos. 6 & 7 positions on the leader board.

Emory returns to action on Saturday, September 9, when it competes at the Furman Classic.
