Emory Women's Cross Country First At JSU Foothills Invitational

The No. 23-ranked Emory women's cross country team captured first-place honors Saturday morning at the JSU Foothills Invitational.  The meet was held at the Oxford Lake and Recreation Center in Oxford, Alabama.

The Eagles paced the 21 teams that comprised the Non-Division I portion of the competition with 19 points. Blue Mountain was second with 91 points while Tennessee Wesleyan held down the No. 3 slot with 95 points.  Spring Hill (155 pts.) and Valdosta State (165 pts.) closed out the top five.

Senior Gabrielle Stravach led all 181 entries who competed, registering a 5k time of 18:03 that represented the program's seventh-fastest time. Dating from last year, it is the 10th straight time that she has ranked as Emory's top performer. Junior Maeve Andrews was the No. 2 Eagle and third overall, clocking an 18:46. Junior Kaylee Slade posted an effort of 18:56 that placed her fourth among the field.  Freshman Abby Durfee (7th place, 19:04) and sophomore Meredith Hughes (8th, 19:08) rounded out the Emory scorers. 

Emory returns to action on Saturday, October 14, when it sends representatives to the Cowbell Classic (Pre-Nationals) in Elsah, Illinois, and the Berry Invitational.
