Emory Men's & Women's Cross Country Teams Compete At Cowbell Classic

The Emory men's and women's cross country teams continued their seasons on Saturday by competing at Principia College's Cowbell Classic (Pre-Nationals) Meet.  The competition was held at Principia's North Farm Cross Country Facility in Elsah, Illinois.

The 21st-ranked Emory women registered an 11th-place finish out of 36 teams, finishing with 331 points.  No. 1 Johns Hopkins raced to the top position with 74 points while No. 3 MIT was runner-up with 76 points.  Senior Gabrielle Stravach was Emory's No. 1 performer, traversing the 6k course in a time of 21:41 that ranked fifth overall out of 332 runners. Dating from last year, it marked the 11th straight time that Stravach finished as the Eagles' No. 1 finisher.  Freshman Carrie McIntyre was the next Emory name to appear on the leader board, registering a 23:19 that slotted her 63rd overall.  Junior Kayla O'Shea was the Eagles' No. 3 runner and 95 in the field with an effort of 23:48.  Rounding out the Emory scorers were freshmen Abby Durfee (23:50, 95th place) and Susie Martin (23:57, 105th place).

The Emory men, ranked 30th, placed 17th out of 38 programs. North Central lived up to its No. 1 billing, easily winning the race with 47 points, well ahead of runner-up SUNY-Geneseo's 150 points. Senior Shane Sullivan spearheaded the Emory contingent clocking an 8k mark of 26:09 that ranked 60th out of 354 runners, and that represented his third-best time. Sophomore Luis Torres was the second Eagle to cross the finish line at 26:38, good for 100th place overall, while classmate Marty Pimentel came through with a 26:44.  The other Emory scorers included junior Bennett Shaw (26:51) and freshman Matt Dillon (27:06).

Emory returns to action on October 28 when it competes at the University Athletic Association Championships in Woodland Park, New Jersey.
