The Emory University men's and women's country teams return to action on Saturday (Oct. 28) when they compete in the 31st Annual University Athletic Association Cross Country Championships.  The competition will be held at the Garret Mountain Reservation in Woodland Park, New Jersey.  The women's 6K race begins at 11:00 am, and will be followed by the men's 8k competition at noon.

Both races will feature some of the top talent in the Division III ranks with five men's programs and four women's teams garnering recognition in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Top 35 Poll.

On the men's side, the Eagles hold down the No. 35 spot nationally while other ranked programs include No. 9 and defending league champ Washington University, No. 12 Carnegie Mellon, No. 23 Chicago and No. 29 New York University.  Senior Shane Sullivan, junior Bennett Shaw and sophomore Marty Pimentel have scored for the Eagles in all four of their outings this fall, with Sullivan placing as the team's top performer in the most recent action at the Pre-National Meet (Oct. 14) in Elsah, Illinois.

The Emory women's team is slotted 21st in the national poll and is joined by No. 7 and defending league champion Washington University, No. 15 Chicago and No. 34 Case Western Reserve.  Senior Gabrielle Stravach has been the squad's mainstay this fall, ranking as its top runner in all four of her meets and in the last 11 dating from 2016. Stravach raced to Second Team All-UAA honors in 2016 after crossing the finish line ninth, helping the Eagles to a third-place finish.
