The Emory women's cross country team raced a second-place finish at the NCAA South/Southeast Region Championships on Saturday.  This year's competition was held at the Lee Hall Mansion Course in Newport News, Virginia and hosted by Christopher Newport University.  The Eagles' performance enabled them to capture an automatic bid to next Saturday's (Nov. 18) NCAA D-III Championships in Elsah, Illinois.

Competing in a 34-team field, 26^th-ranked Emory recorded 83 points, just three points behind first-place finish Trinity (Texas). Centre College was third with 153 points while Lynchburg (171 pts.) and Washington and Lee (181 pts.) rounded out the top five. Emory's showing represented the 27^th straight year of the program finishing second or better at the Regional Championships.

Six of the Eagles' seven runners ranked among the top 35 overall finishers, earning all-region honors in the process. Senior Gabrielle Stravach led the contingent for the sixth time in as many outings this season, topping the 240-runner field in a school-record 6k time of 20:59. Stravach becomes the seventh different Emory runner to win the individual crown at Regionals, joining Elise Viox (2015), Tess Gallegos (2010), Amy DiBianca (2006), Angela Davie (2002), Sarah Byrd (2000, 2001) and Christine Gallagher (1994).

Senior Tru Powell bolstered the team's effort, registering a personal-best 22:20 that ranked 17^th overall. Freshman Abby Durfee was Emory's third finisher and 20^th in the field, coming through with a season-best 22:27. The junior tandem of Kayla O'Shea (22:33) and Kaylee Slade (22:35) each established personal-best marks and rounded out the team's scorers, ranking 22^nd and 23^rd, respectively.  Freshman Carrie McIntrye brought home all-region accolades after clocking a 22:48 that placed her 33^rd.
