The Emory University women's cross country team has announced the program's award winners for the 2017 season.

Senior Gabrielle Stravach (Westfield, NJ) was named the Most Outstanding Performer after a stellar campaign that saw her rank as the squad's No. 1 runner in all seven of her competitions.  The highlight of the year came at the NCAA D-III Championships when she became just the seventh Eagle in program history to capture All-America honors after posting a 10^th-place finish out of 279 entries, the second-best showing by an Emory runner at nationals.  She raced to all-region honors for the third straight season after crossing the finish line in the No. 1 position out of 240 competitors at the NCAA South/Southeast Championships, becoming the seventh Emory runner to accomplish that feat, clocking a school-record 6K time of 20:59.  Named the South/Southeast Region Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, Stravach also garnered First Team All-University Athletic Association honors after registering a second-place finish at the league championships.

Freshman Susie Martin (Westport, CT) was tabbed as the Most Improved Runner after enjoying a strong finish to the season that saw her score for the Eagles in her final three races.  She was the team's No. 2 finisher at the NCAA D-III Championships, coming through with a season-best 6k performance of 22:41, and was No. 3 among the Eagles' contingent at the UAA Championships with a mark of 24:56.  The first time she ranked among Emory's top five came at the Cowbell Classic (Pre-Nationals) when she clocked a 23:57.

Junior Kayla O'Shea (Marietta, GA) received the Coaches' Award, symbolic of dedication, leadership and inspiration, after scoring for Emory in four of her seven competitions. O'Shea established a pair of personal bests during the season, including an effort of 22:33 that ranked 22^nd overall (fourth on the team) out of 240 runners and that enabled her to claim all-region accolades at the NCAA South/Southeast Championships. She was the Eagles' No. 2 finisher at the UAA Championships (24:55) and was fourth among the pack at nationals with a showing a 22:56, with that time her second-best career effort.

Freshman Abby Durfee (Walpole, MA) was chosen as the Most Outstanding Newcomer.  Durfee was extremely consistent, scoring in all eight of the meets she took part in which included four top-three showings.  She brought home all-region recognition after clocking a season-best time of 22:27, which placed third on the team and 20^th out of 240 contestants, at the NCAA South/Southeast Championships.  She followed that performance by finishing third among the Emory contingent at the NCAA D-III Championships with an effort of 22:45.   

Emory finished third at the UAA Championships, second at the NCAA Regionals and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the 13^th straight season.
