The No. 17-ranked Emory women's cross country team posted a fifth-place finish at the 32nd Annual University Athletic Association Championships on Sunday. The event was held at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Somers, Wis.
The Eagles finished the competition with 126 points. Taking home the top spot was No. 2-ranked Washington University who defended its title with 24 points, well ahead of No. 12 Chicago's runner-up total of 71 points. Eighth-ranked Brandeis took home third place (73 pts.) while Rochester was fourth (123 pts.).
Senior Kaylee Slade once again paced the Emory contingent, crossing the finish line in the No. 8 overall position out of 79 runners with a personal-best 6k time of 22:31. It represented the fifth straight race in as many outings that she ranked as the squad's top runner. Slade's finish enabled her to land Second Team All-UAA honors.
Senior Kayla O'Shea (23:00) and sophomore Susie Martin (23:04) were the Eagles' second and third finishers, respectively, with their times slotting them 20th and 22nd in the field. Sophomore Abby Durfee clocked a 23:41, which was good for 39th position, while senior Maeve Andrews rounded out the team's scorers (23:49, 45th.).
Washington University's Paige Lawler was the No. 1 finisher with a time of 21:15.
Emory returns to action on Saturday, November 10, when it travels to Rome, Georgia, to compete in the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships.
