Emory Women's Cross Country Announces 2018 Award Winners

The Emory University women's cross country team has announced the program's award winners for the 2018 season.

Senior Kaylee Slade (Dublin, GA) was named the Most Outstanding Performer after a stellar campaign that saw her rank as the squad's No. 1 runner in all seven of her competitions. Slade posted a personal-best 6K time of 22:27 at the NCAA D-III Championships that slotted her 88th in the 279-runner field.  She raced to all-region recognition for the second straight year after finishing seventh out of 237 entries with a time of 22:55 at the NCAA South/Southeast Championships.  Slade also garnered All-UAA Second Team honors after crossing the finish line in the No. 8 overall position at the conference championships, recording a time of 22:31 that represented her second-fastest career effort. She also distinguished herself at the NCAA Pre-Nationals where she helped the Eagles to a 10th-place performance out of 52 teams by turning in a time of 22:43 that ranked 27th out of 353 runners.  

Senior Kayla O'Shea (Marietta, GA) was selected as the Most Improved runner after a consistent year that saw her score in six of seven competitions. O'Shea was the team's No. 2 finisher in the last three meets including the NCAA D-III Championships where she tied her personal-best 6K time of 22:33.  O'Shea claimed all-region kudos for the second straight campaign after ranking 13th out of 237 runners with a mark of 23:16 at the NCAA South/Southeast Championships, helping the Eagles to a first-place finish. She was part of a strong team effort at Pre-Nationals, crossing the finish line third among the Emory pack and 54th overall out of 353 runners with a time of 23:12.

Sophomore Carrie McIntrye (Houston, TX) received the Coaches' Award, symbolic of dedication, leadership and inspiration, after scoring for Emory in six of her seven competitions. McIntrye finished third or higher among the Eagle finishers on six occasions including a No. 2 effort at the NCAA Pre-Nationals with her time of 23:10 placing 51st out of 353 runners. She registered a 17th-place finish at the NCAA South/Southeast Championships, earning all-region recognition for the second straight season, with a showing of 23:28. McIntyre competed at the NCAA D-III Championships for the second time in her young career and registered her top 6K time of the 2018 campaign (22:52).

Freshman Zoe Friedman (Silver Spring, MD) was chosen as the Most Outstanding Newcomer after bolstering the lineup midway through the season.  Friedman was an Emory scorer in three of her five meets and was the No. 1 Eagle to finish in the 6K Berry Invitational, clocking a 23:58 that ranked 25th overall out of 217 entries, and the 6K Bobcat Invitational with a time of season-best time of 23:21. She was a member of the All-UAA All-Freshman Team and followed that effort by racing to all-region honors with a 26th-place finish out of 237 runners at the NCAA South/Southeast Championships.  

Emory advanced to the NCAA D-III Championships for the 14th straight season where it registered a 20th-place finish.
