Liam Fost & Derek Nelson Earn USTFCCCA Regional Awards

Emory University’s Liam Fost and Derek Nelson were honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) this week as they took home regional awards at Wednesday’s banquet.

Fost was named the South/Southeast Region Men’s Track Athlete of the Year after recording a strong spring campaign for the Eagles. Fost shaved 2.28 seconds off his 400m time from his freshman season as he captured the UAA championship with a conference record time of 47.19. Fost enters the national field with the second fastest seed time as preliminaries are set to begin at 3:00 PM on Friday, May 24th at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Nelson was tabbed as the women’s Regional Coach of the Year as he saw the Eagles register seven entries to this week’s NCAA Championships. In his first season with the team, Nelson helped Emory to a third place finish at the UAA Championships and has the team positioned 11th in the country ahead of outdoor nationals.

The 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships are set to get underway later today, Thursday, May 23rd, and will continue through Saturday, May 25th. For more information regarding the national meet, please click here.
