Four Swimmers Placed on CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-District Teams

Emory University swimmers Thomas Gordon, Trey Kolleck, Julia Durmer and Meg Taylor were selected to the Google Cloud College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District At-Large Team on Thursday, May 16th as announced by the organization. All four student-athletes are making their first career appearance on the Academic All-District Teams.

Gordon capped off his four-year career with the Eagles this past March by winning national championships in both the 500 and 1,650 Freestyle events to bring his career total to four national titles. In his career, Gordon collected 15 All-America honors and was a member of the Eagles’ national championship in 2017. A program record holder in three events, Gordon captured UAA titles on eight different occasions and was a 12-time All-UAA finisher. Gordon, who was nominated with a 3.61 GPA as a Business Administration & Quantitative Services major, was also a CSCAA Scholar All-American in 2018 and was a three-time UAA All-Academic Team selection.

Kolleck joins Gordon on men’s Academic All-District team after completing an outstanding four-year career with the Eagles. Kolleck captured a pair of national championships in the 100 Freestyle and 200 Freestyle Relay this past March as he pushed his career championship total to 10. An 18-time All-American in his career, tied for second most all-time, Kolleck added 10 UAA event titles to his ledger, was a 17-time All-UAA finisher and was named a CSCAA Scholar All-American three times. An accounting major who graduated with a 3.69 GPA, Kolleck closed out his Emory career holding program records in both the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays.

Durmer adds Academic All-District honors after becoming the latest recipient of the prestigious Postgraduate Scholarship in Emory history. A three-year member of the swimming and diving program, Durmer capped off her time with team by helping the Eagles to their 10th consecutive NCAA national championship this past March. Over the course of her three seasons with the team, Durmer was a six-time All-American, two-time All-America honorable mention, seven-time UAA champion, and in 2017, she captured the 1,650 Freestyle national championship, becoming just the fourth Emory performer ever to win the event. A Human Health graduate with a GPA of 3.88, Durmer was 2018 CSCAA Scholar All-American and a four-time member of the Emory Dean’s List.

Taylor rounds out the list of Emory Academic All-District honorees after helping the Eagles to the national title this past spring. At the national meet, Taylor won gold in the 200 Free Relay to give her seven event national championships in her career and added All-America kudos in the 50 Freestyle, 200 Medley Relay, 800 Freestyle Relay, 100 Freestyle and 400 Freestyle Relay to give her 14 All-America honors in her career. The Division III record holder in the 400 Freestyle Relay, Taylor was a 14-time UAA champion and 23-time All-UAA finisher as well as a three-time CSCAA Scholar All-American. She graduated earlier this month with a 3.66 GPA as a Biology and Spanish double major.

The Academic All-District program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.

All four swimmers will now be placed on the national ballot for a chance to be named an Academic All-American. The Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large teams will be announced on Tuesday, June 19th.
