The Eagles Weekly Preview for February 3rd – 9th. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming events for Emory athletic events for the coming week.

 

Swimming & Diving

After having their second week off due to the meet with UGA being canceled, the swimming & diving teams will send a small contingent to Auburn prior to the UAA Championships next week in Chicago. The Auburn First Chance Invitational will run three days with preliminaries beginning at 9:30 AM every day and finals sessions starting at 5:00 PM Friday and Saturday and at 3:00 PM on Sunday.

Women’s Basketball

After posting a 5-2 record through the first half of the UAA slate, the Eagles look to bounce back during turnover weekend as Chicago and WashU visit Atlanta to open the back half of the conference slate. Emory (14-4 overall) currently sits tied for second in the Association with Case Western Reserve and trails first-place Chicago (6-1, 15-3 overall) by one game.

Senior Allison Chernow has led the team through the first seven conference games, averaging 15.0 points per game following her 23 point outburst in the team’s overtime defeat at WashU on Sunday. In addition, Chernow was dished out a team-best 23 assists while grabbing 4.3 rebounds per game.

Men’s Basketball

Men’s Basketball rans its winning streak to four game with two dominating performances on the road against Chicago and No. 13 ranked WashU, improving to 16-2 overall. The Eagles currently sit in a three-way tie atop of the league standings heading into turnover weekend, tied with Brandeis and WashU at 6-1.

Junior Matthew Schner, who was named the UAA Athlete of the Week Monday afternoon, has recorded three straight double-doubles including a 15-point and 14-rebound effort against the Bears on Sunday. For the season, Schner ranks third in the UAA with 16.2 PPG and trails only classmate Romin Williams (17.9 PPG) for the team lead in that category.

Baseball

The 2020 version of Emory Baseball team hits the diamond for the first time this season as the Eagles take part in the Piedmont Early Spring Tournament in Demorest, GA. Alongside the Eagles will be the Lions, Virginia Wesleyan as well as last year’s national runner-up, Birmingham-Southern. The season opens Friday afternoon as Emory faces the Marlins in a scheduled 3:00 PM first pitch.
