Emory Serves As Site Of NCAA Board Of Governors & Presidents Council Meetings

Emory University served as the site for the historic National Collegiate Athletic Association Board of Governors and Presidential Councils October meetings.

The board enacted a landmark decision, voting unanimously to permit students participating in athletics the opportunity to benefit from the use of their name, image and likeness in a manner consistent with the collegiate model.

The NCAA's top policy-making group, the Board of Governors is composed of institutional chief executive officers that oversee Association-wide issues.  The board is charged with ensuring that each division operates consistently with the basic purposes, fundamental policies and general principles of the Association. There are also six public board members.

Annually, the Board of Governor’s meeting includes Presidential Councils from all three NCAA Divisions (I, II, III) and representatives from all three Division’s Management Councils.  In addition, members of the National Office Leadership team were in attendance.

It represented only the third time these series of meetings were held on an institutional campus and the first time on a Division III campus.

As many as 90 people attended various events including approximately 70 College & University Presidents.

Emory student-athletes were able to be involved and interact with college presidents and NCAA administrators with 10 selected to attend a luncheon and four (Shivani Beall, Lawrence Rowley, Sarah Katz, and Liam Fost) participate in panel session that was moderated by Katrice A. Albert, NCAA Executive Vice President of Inclusion and Human Resources.
