The Emory Athletics Weekly Preview for March 7th – March 13th. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming Emory athletic events for the coming week.

Men's Golf:

The Emory University men's golf team opens its spring season at the Savannah Collegiate in Savannah, GA on Monday and Tuesday before competing in the UAA Championships in Palm Coast, FL this Saturday and Sunday. An immensely successful fall season sees the Eagles come into the spring as the No. 1 ranked team in the country. The Eagles will bring five golfers to the Savannah Collegiate: senior Max Schwarz, senior Davis Hingtgen, senior Logan Ryan, freshman Tony Li and sophomore Michael Rosenbloom. The 54-hole Savannah Invitational is to be played at the par-71, 6,715-yard Savannah Country Club course. The UAA Championships will be played on the Conservatory Course at the Hammock Beach Resort.

Women's Golf:

The Emory University women's golf team opens its spring season at the Savannah Collegiate in Pooler, GA on Monday and Tuesday before traveling to Palm Coast, FL for the highly anticipated UAA Championships on Saturday and Sunday. The Eagles come into the spring ranked second in the nation after winning a total of three tournaments during the fall season. The Eagles have five golfers competing at the Savannah Collegiate: freshman Sharon Mun, freshman Ellen Dong, freshman Heejo Hyun, sophomore Mariana Chong and sophomore Irene Wang. The 36-hole Savannah Collegiate is being played on the par-72, 5.676-yard Savannah Quarters Country Club course. The UAA Championships will be played on the Conservatory Course at the Hammock Beach Resort.

Indoor Track & Field:

The Emory University indoor track & field team will send two athletes to Winston-Salem, NC to compete in the NCAA DIII Indoor Championships on March 11th and 12th. Graduate student Liam Fost will compete in the 400m dash after qualifying by recording a season best 48.75 time at the BSC Indoor Icebreaker in December. Fost's time is the sixth fastest in program history and sees him going into the championships seeded 11th. Sophomore Spencer Watry qualified for the 800m run after registering a time of 1:51.95, the fastest time in program history, at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in February. Watry comes into the championship seeded 13th. Both runners will compete in their preliminary events on Friday, March 11th with the chance to qualify for the finals that will take place on Saturday, March 12th.

Baseball:

An outstanding 3-0 weekend at home against the Maryville Scots sees the Emory University baseball team come into this four game week riding quite the hot streak. The Eagles (9-6) will travel to Birmingham, AL to take on the Birmingham-Southern Panthers (10-2) on Wednesday at 5:30 PM before participating in a three-game series (away-home-away) against the Piedmont Lions (8-6-1), playing one a day Friday through Sunday. Emory and Birmingham-Southern have faced off 34 times before with the Panthers holding a 16-14 advantage over the Eagles all-time. The Eagles have fared better against the Lions as they have an outstanding 41-28 all-time record over Piedmont. Senior Kyle Sulkowski was outstanding on the mound this past weekend closing each of the three games against the Scots as he recorded a pair of saves while not allowing a single Maryville hit in his 3.2 innings of work.

Softball:

After a long weekend at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, GA in which the Emory University softball team went 3-3, the Eagles will return to action this Friday with a doubleheader at home against the Covenant Scots before competing in another doubleheader at home on Sunday against the LaGrange Panthers. The Eagles (5-5) will host the Scots (4-5) for a doubleheader at 1:00 and 3:00 PM before the Panthers (2-7) come to town for their double dip on Sunday at 1:30 and 3:30 PM. The Eagles hold an all-time series record advantage of 19-1 over the Scots while their all-time record against the Panther sits at 52-10 in the Eagles favor. Senior Mattie Ryan was named to the all-tournament team at the NFCA Leadoff Classic for her performance in the circle where she accrued a record of 2-1 and for her performance at the plate where she had nine total RBI including seven in their game against Central (IA).

Men's Tennis:

The Emory University men's tennis team rides a two-game winning streak into its home matchups against San Diego Christian College and Rhodes this weekend. The Eagles (2-4) take on the Hawks of SDCC (5-4) on Friday at 11:00 AM before facing off against the Rhodes Lynx (2-6) on Saturday morning at 9:00 AM. Sophomore Nolan Shah stepped up big for the Eagles in their most recent match against Xavier of Louisiana winning both his singles and his doubles match to help lead Emory to its 6-3 victory.

Women's Tennis:

After falling to Chicago in the ITA Indoor National Championship match, the Emory University women's tennis team looks to bounce back with two matches on the west coast this weekend. The Eagles (3-2) will first face off against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (5-2) on Friday in Claremont, CA in a rematch of the ITA semifinals from this past weekend before traveling down the road for their matchup against Pomona-Pitzer (5-1) on Saturday. The doubles team of freshman Eliza McPherron and senior Jessica Fatemi cruised all weekend at the ITA Championships winning all three of their doubles matches while only dropping seven games all weekend.
