Emory Swimming & Diving Establishes Wellness Endowment

The Emory University men's and women's swimming and diving teams are among the most elite NCAA Division III programs in the country, with a combined 52 UAA championships, 14 national championships, 70 individual national championships, and 46 relay national championships. Our program contributes to a well-rounded undergraduate experience for student-athletes, influencing their lives and careers at Emory and beyond.

As elite competitors, our student-athletes deserve best-in-class facilities, equipment, and support programs that will enable them to achieve their highest potential and elevate the memorable experiences that will shape the rest of their lives. With gratitude, the Emory Swimming & Diving team received a generous gift to establish the S&D Wellness Endowment. The newly established endowment will focus on the holistic student-athlete experience providing funds for mental health and sports psychology programs, recovery tools, nutrition education. Building upon the mental and physical support that our program provides for our student-athletes, creating a foundation of health and wellness that will advance our tradition of excellence.

The endowment will address existing mental health and sports psychology programming, including stress and anxiety management, mental training and individual sessions with a sports psychologist while allowing for expanded programs and services. Regarding nutrition support, it will provide recovery resources, nutritional education programming, and fueling strategies for early, mid, and late season training. In addition, the coaching staff is piloting using the Whoop for select student-athletes to evaluate if adapting the training schedule to the recovery scores proves advantageous. During her time at Emory Swimming and Diving alumna, Lillian Ciardelli 10C, recognized the efforts made by coaching staff to help student-athletes balance their workload and alleviate stress. She worked with Jon Howell to conceive the idea of a wellness program to complement the student-athlete experience.

Emory Athletics is proud to announce this gift and the generosity of our donor who wishes to remain anonymous. This endowment will provide sustainable support for Emory Swimming & Diving in perpetuity and will continue to propel our student-athletes toward excellence.
