The Emory Athletics Weekly Preview for March 28th – April 3rd. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming Emory athletic events for the coming week.

Softball:

After a 2-2 weekend against Carnegie Mellon to open conference play, the Emory University softball team is back in action this week with its last two non-conference games of the regular season before hitting the road this weekend for a four-game series against Brandeis. The Eagles (12-8, 2-2 UAA) will take on the St. Olaf Oles (4-10) in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Cooper Field before traveling up to Waltham, MA for their series against the Brandeis Judges (8-8, 0-4 UAA) with the first game set to take place at 3:00 PM on Friday. The doubleheader on Wednesday marks the first ever matchup between St. Olaf and Emory whereas the Eagles hold a 43-5 all-time series advantage over the Judges with the Eagles winning their last five including, most recently, routing them 11-3 in five innings in April of 2019. Senior Mattie Ryan picked up two more wins in the circle this past weekend, giving up just three runs in 14 innings pitched and moving her season record to 10-2.

Baseball:

The Emory University baseball team looks to bounce back from a tough weekend against Case Western Reserve as they take the road to face NYU in a four-game series. The Eagles (14-11, 1-3 UAA) will travel to Brooklyn, NY to meet the Violets (12-1, 3-1 UAA) with the first pitch of the first game scheduled for 3:30 PM on Friday, April 1st. The Eagles hold a 9-6 all-time series advantage over the Violets with their most recent matchup in April of 2019 ending 6-3 in favor of NYU. Freshman Brok Liu had a standout performance in the first two games of the Case Western Reserve series, going a combined 3-for-5 at the plate with four RBI and three runs that came on two home runs and a double.

Outdoor Track & Field:

After a successful outing at the home Thrills in the Hills Open, the Emory University track & field team will take to the road for the first time this outdoor season as they travel to Birmingham, AL for the UAB Spring Invitational. The women won their second consecutive meet posting a score of 131 while the men's team took first place racking up a score of 152.50 to mark their first win of the outdoor season. The meet is set to kickoff at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 1st and will resume on Saturday at 9:00 AM. Freshman Jackson Price had a record-breaking meet this past weekend as he was a part of three events in which he finished first and he set the new program record in the 100m dash with a time of 10.52 seconds. Junior Annika Urban, back in action for the first time since her 12th place finish at the DIII Cross Country National Championships in November, finished in first place in the 3,000m run with a time of 10:03.80 which is the second fastest time in program history.

Men's Tennis:

After handily defeating Sewanee this past weekend, the Emory University men's tennis team will return home this weekend for a match against the DePauw Tigers. The Eagles (6-6) carry a two-match winning streak into their faceoff with the Tigers (9-5) on Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Woodruff PE Center. Emory will honor its senior class with a ceremony prior to the start of the match Saturday morning. The Eagles hold a 25-1 all-time series record advantage over the Tigers with their only loss coming back in March of 1990.

Women's Tennis:

A bounce-back win over Sewanee on Saturday sets the Emory University women's tennis team up for a showdown with the DePauw Tigers at home on Saturday. The Eagles (5-5) look to build some momentum as we head towards the postseason with their faceoff against the Tigers (4-9) coming at the conclusion of the men's match at approximately 2:00 PM on Saturday. Emory will honor its senior class with a ceremony before the start of the match. The Eagles have never lost a match to the Tigers, holding a 24-0 series advantage over DePauw that dates back to April of 1991.
