The Emory Athletics Weekly Preview for April 18th – April 24th. This preview is to serve as a weekly snapshot of all upcoming Emory athletic events for the coming week.

Men's Tennis:

The Emory University men's tennis team will play a tune-up match against Georgia Gwinnett College on Tuesday before traveling to Orlando, FL this weekend to compete in the UAA Championships. The No. 11 ranked Eagles (7-8) will face off against the Grizzlies (16-0) on Tuesday at 3:00 PM in Lawrenceville, GA. The Eagles come into the UAA Championship seeded fourth out of eight teams and are slated to compete against the fifth seeded and 22nd ranked Carnegie Mellon Tartans in the first round of the tournament at 8:30 AM on Thursday.

The Eagles are 0-5 all-time against the Grizzlies with their most recent matchup coming in the form of a 7-0 loss earlier this season. Emory holds a 14-1 all-time series advantage over Carnegie Mellon with the most recent matchup in 2017 ending in a 6-3 result in the Eagles favor. Emory has won 27 total UAA Championships including four of the past five. Case Western Reserve comes into the tournament as the No. 1 ranked team in the conference and the nation while Chicago and WashU round out the top three. The semifinals are set to take place on Friday at 12:30 PM while the finals will commence at 8:30 AM Saturday morning.

Women's Tennis:

The Emory University women's tennis team will make its way down to Orlando, FL for the UAA Championships where they will take on the Brandeis Judges in the first round of play. The No. 4 ranked Eagles (6-8) come into the tournament seeded second where they will take on the seventh seeded Judges (4-11) in the first round of play on Friday at 8:30 AM. Emory has never lost a match to Brandeis and has dropped just three total matches to the Judges in their five previous meetings. The Eagles are going for their eighth consecutive UAA Championship crown and 31st all-time. Chicago comes into the tournament as the number one seeded team and the No. 1 ranked team in the nation. The semifinals are set to take place at 12:30 PM on Saturday with the finals slated for a 8:30 AM start Sunday morning.

Track & Field:

The Emory University track & field teams, coming off a stellar performance at the Berry Field Day Invitational, are set to compete at the UAA Outdoor Championships in St. Louis, MO on Saturday, April 23rd and Sunday, April 24th. The men's team is set to compete in the field of seven conference opponents that includes No. 4 Carnegie Mellon and No. 8 WashU. The women's team, also competing against seven conference foes, is slated to compete against top teams in the nation such as No. 1 WashU and No. 13 Carnegie Mellon. The Eagles most recently competed in the outdoor UAA Championships in 2019 where the men took seventh and the women finished third. The women have won eight total UAA Championships with their most recent title coming in 2013 while the men have won five total with their most recent coming in 2015.

The championships will get underway on Saturday with the women's hammer throw at 10:00 AM and will resume on Sunday at 10:00 AM with the women's triple jump. The men return two conference champions with graduate student Liam Fost and senior Brett Henshey having won the 400m dash and the high jump at the 2019 UAA Championship, respectively. Senior Hannah Lansberry returns as the lone conference champion for the women as she was part of the winning 4x400 relay team at the 2019 championships.

Baseball:

The Emory University baseball team concludes the regular season this week with five games scheduled to take place at Chappell Park in Atlanta. Following the final non-conference game of the year Tuesday against nationally-ranked Birmingham-Southern, the Eagles (21-12, 8-4 UAA) will set its sights on a potential UAA Championship this weekend with the final conference series of the season against Brandeis University. The Eagles enter the week trailing UAA-leader Case Western Reserve by one game in the standings as they look to earn at least a share of the UAA crown for the first time since 2015.

Tuesday's game with the No. 4 ranked Panthers (27-7) is set for 3:00 PM before the four-game set with the Judges gets underway Friday with a 3:00 PM first pitch. The weekend will also feature senior day for the Eagles as prior to the doubleheader against the Judges on Saturday, the team will recognize the eight seniors on their roster: Zeke Diamond, Robby Wacker, Ethan Shear, Jack Brodsky, Jack Moore, Dylan Khan, Bryant Wise and Kyle Sulkowski with a special on-field ceremony.

Emory is 14-17 against the Panthers all-time with their most recent bout occurring earlier this year and ending in a 19-8 victory for Birmingham-Southern. The Eagles have fared much better against Brandeis as they hold a 35-12 all-time series advantage over the Judges and currently are on a 26-game win streak with the Eagles last loss coming in 2008.

Softball:

After a 2-2 weekend at home against NYU, the Emory University softball team looks to close out its season on a high note as they travel to St. Louis, MO to face off against WashU. The Eagles (17-17, 6-10 UAA) will round out their season with a four-game series against the Bears (25-9, 11-5 UAA) with the first game set to take place at 4:00 PM on Friday. The Eagles hold a 24-22 all-time series advantage over the Bears with their most recent matchup resulting in a 13-3 five-inning win for Emory. Graduate student Natalie Costero had a stellar weekend against the Violets including an RBI in the seventh inning of the senior day game against NYU that brought the Eagles within a single run of the tie.
