Emory Tennis Teams Selected to NCAA Championships; Women to Serve as Hosts for Opening Rounds

The No. 8 ranked Emory women's tennis team and the No. 13 ranked Emory men's tennis team have been selected to the 2022 NCAA Championships as announced Monday afternoon.

The women, looking to repeat as national champions, were one of nine Pool C selections as they gained an at-large selection into the 49-team field. The Eagles will also serve as regional hosts for the opening rounds and will welcome USA South champion Piedmont (24-4), HCAC champion Transylvania (15-4), OAC champion Otterbein (18-4), SAA champion Sewanee (20-3) and at-large selection Webster (14-11) to Atlanta this weekend, May 13-15.

The opening rounds will take place Friday with Emory awaiting the winner of Piedmont-Transylvania on Saturday. The winner of the six-team pod will advance to the final rounds of the national championships which will be held May 23-25 in Orlando, FL.

This marks the Eagles the 37th consecutive tournament appearance and will be in search of the programs' ninth national title.

For the men, the Eagles were selected as one of eight at-large teams and will be one of 44 programs in the postseason field as Emory looks to continue its recent dominant stretch that has included three national championships since 2017 and enters the tournament as the two-time reigning national champions.

Emory draws Coast-to-Coast champion, University of Mary Washington (8-10), in the second round which will be played at UMW's campus in Fredericksburg, VA on Saturday. Should Emory advance in the battle of the Eagles, they would await either SCAC champion Trinity, AMCC champion PSU-Behrend or United East champion St. Mary's (MD) in the third round on Sunday with a spot in the national quarterfinals on the line.

This represents the 32nd consecutive postseason appearance for the men's squad as the team will be in search of its seventh national title.

In addition to the team selections, individual selections to the NCAA Championships will be announced this week with the formal announcement expected Wednesday evening.
