Emory Track & Field Qualifies for Five Events at NCAA Outdoor Championships

The Emory University men's and women's track & field teams saw a total of seven student-athletes chosen to compete across five events at the upcoming NCAA Division III Championships in Geneva, OH as the list of NCAA selections was announced Friday evening.

On the men's side, senior Spencer Moore will compete individually as he was selected to the 3000m steeplechase. Moore enters the field with the 12th-fastest time after recording 9:05.24 at the Lee Last Chance Qualifier. It will be his first-ever appearance at the outdoor championships.

For the first time since 2007, the Eagles have qualified for both relay events on the men's side as Emory will be one of eight schools to send runners to compete in both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. In the 4x400m, senior Thomas Davis, graduate student Liam Fost, sophomore Dawit Dean and freshman Jackson Price open as the eighth seed after their school record-breaking effort at Lee University this past Saturday with their time of 3:12.76. The 4x100m relay team of Davis, Fost, Price and freshman Sam Ryba claimed the final qualifying position after their performance Wednesday night at the Emory Final Qualifier as their school record time of 41.14 catapulted them into the 16-team championship field.

For the women, junior Annika Urban will represent the Eagles as she solidified qualifying spots in two events with her performances over the last week at two separate final qualifier meets. After breaking her own school record by 10 seconds and becoming the first runner under 17 minutes in the 5000m in team history, Urban will enter the competition with the 14th seed at 16:50.93. Urban will also compete in the 1500m following her personal best performance Thursday night at the Augustana Midwest Twilight qualifier, securing the 17th fastest time with her mark of 4:34.84. This will be Urban's second appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships after finishing 11th in the 5000m in 2021.

The NCAA Championships are set to begin Thursday, May 26th with the Eagles set to compete in the preliminaries of the men's 4x100m relay, women's 1500m, men's 3000m steeplechase and men's 4x400m relay. Saturday, May 28th will feature the finals of women's 5000m run as well as the finals of the four other events should the Eagles qualify.
