Emory University Named February Recipient of NCAA Division III Diversity Spotlight Initiative

Emory University was selected as the recipient of the NCAA's Division III Diversity Spotlight Initiative for the month of February.

The NCAA Division III Diversity Spotlight Initiative recognizes and promotes outstanding diversity related projects, programming and initiatives that are occurring on Division III campuses and in conference offices. Each month, the award recognizes an institution or conference in regard to a diversity related event, program or initiative. Emory was awarded $500 gift to use towards a future diversity initiative.

This past month, the Emory Black Student-Athlete Group led initiatives on campus and put together a panel that allowed student-athletes to share the unique challenges and experiences that Emory Black student-athletes face.

BSAG, which was formed and developed this past fall, supports student-athletes who have lived experiences in, identify with, or are committed to the empowerment and culture of the Black diaspora in and out of the athletic community at a Predominately White Institution (PWI). BSAG strives to create a safe and positive environment, foster community between sports, and celebrate their many intersecting identities and cultures; while continuing to advocate for their personal, professional, academic, and athletic success.

Initiative recipients are chosen by a committee composed of Division III commissioners.
