Eagles Stand Ninth in LEARFIELD Directors' Cup Following Winter Season

Emory University currently stands ninth in the winter edition of the 2022-23 LEARFIELD Directors' Cup as the Eagles secured 312.50 points during the winter season, bringing the department's yearly total to 528.50.

The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's NCAA Tournament finishes in up to 18 sports - nine women's and nine men's. Announced in late March, the winter standings include results for men's and women's basketball, women's bowling, fencing, men's and women's ice hockey, rifle, skiing, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's indoor track & field and men's wrestling.

The Eagles had five programs garner points this winter season: men's & women's basketball, men's & women's indoor track & field and men's & women's swimming & diving. The Eagles' men's swimming & diving program led the way, winning their second consecutive and third national championship in program history earlier this month, securing 100 points towards Emory's team total. The women's swimming & diving team, claiming their second straight national runner-up team finish, tacked on an additional 90 points for the Eagles. Women's indoor track & field, headlined by the first-ever indoor national championship in team history by senior Annika Urban in the mile earned 63.75 points while men's indoor track & field, led by freshman Henry Brandstadter had 8.5 points. Rounding out the Eagles' scoring in the winter were the men's and women's basketball programs who each recorded 25 points by reaching the NCAA tournament.

Emory looks to add to its total this spring with men's & women's tennis, men's & women's golf, men's & women's outdoor track & field, softball and baseball. Since 1993, the Eagles have finished inside the top 10 in 19 of the previous 20 LEARFIELD Directors' Cups, including nine consecutive.
