Urban, Nguyen, Nelson Earn Top Regional Honors

Senior Annika Urban has once again garnered South Region Athlete of the Year honors after her impressive outdoor season while head coach Linh Nguyen and Derek Nelson each took home honors on the coaching side as announced Tuesday by the USTFCCCA.

Urban becomes the first Eagle to earn the outdoor season honor on the women's side. Nguyen won Coach of the Year for men's track and field, the first award for the Eagles on the men's side. Nelson took home the Assistant Coach of the Year on the women's side, the fourth time in women's track and field history.

Urban has continued to shatter records and make a name for herself this outdoor season. Competing in the Lee Last Chance meet, Urban clocked in at 4:19.43 in the 1500m placing her seventh in DIII history in the event. She was also the first DIII runner to go under 4:25 this season. She established a new UAA Championship record in the 1500m with a 4:28.67, the third fastest in the nation at the time and fourth in program history. Urban was named USTFCCCA National Track Athlete of the Week in April after registering a time of 16:06.95 in the 5,000m run which placed her into third all-time in Division III history.

Under Nguyen's leadership this season, the Eagles earned a third-place team finish at the UAA Outdoor Championships. The men combined for 26 South Region top-10 rankings and held the top spot in three events. The Eagles also saw 22 student-athletes garner All-Region honors this past week. 11 of Nelson's athletes are also ranked in the top-10 in the South Region. Nelson has also led the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams that are currently ranked No. 1 regionally.
