Five Eagles Tabbed as UAA Athletes of the Week for May 6-12

Five student-athletes were selected as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

Sophomore Henry Brandstadter garners his ninth Athlete of the Week selection, his fifth this season while senior Kenya Sei and graduate student Nikki Boon each pick up their fifth career selection. Rounding out the selections was junior Audrey Johnson earning her fourth career selection while senior Ana Cristina Perez garners her third career weekly honor.

Brandstadter had an impressive week competing for the Eagles at the Life University Last Chance meet and the Lee Last Chance meet. At the Life U meet, he was a part of the 4x100 relay group that took first with a time of 40.75. The time ranks 14th in Division III and first in the UAA and also broke the program record. The same group also competed at the Lee Last Chance taking sixth with a time of 41.41 seconds. Brandstadter also competed in the long jump at both meets taking first at both with distances of 7.26m and 7.27m. His distance of 7.27m ranks 19th in the Division and second in the UAA.

Sei broke the program record in the hammer throw at the Life University Last Chance meet last week. Sei took home a second place finish in the event throwing a 58.87m mark breaking his previous school record of 57.60m he set at the Emory Spring Break Classic. He also competed in the discus event finishing fourth with a distance of 43.89m. His hammer throw distance ranks 14th in Division III and first in the UAA.

Boon competed at both the Life University and Lee Last Chance meets this weekend for the Eagles. At the Life U meet, she took second place in the long jump with a distance of 5.75m which ranks 18th in Division III and second in the UAA. She also competed in the javelin throw at the Lee Last Chance meet taking 11th with a distance of 35.80m.

Johnson highlighted the weekend for the women competing at the Life U Last Chance meet and the Lee Last Chance meet. She started the weekend in the 4x100 helping the group to a time of 40.75. She also took home first in the 400m running a 56.68 which ranks 35th in the nation and seventh in the UAA. She finished the weekend breaking the program record in the 200m with a time of 24.22 to take first at the meet. Her time ranks 10th in the division and first in the UAA.

Perez helped the Eagles advance to the Elite Eight with wins over NC Wesleyan and Trinity at the Rocky Mount Regional. On Saturday against NC Wesleyan, Perez started the day winning her doubles match with partner Emily Kantrovitz with an 8-1 decision before winning the first set of her singles match with a 6-4 line. On Sunday against the Tigers, the doubles duo won their match with an 8-3 decision before winning her singles match with a 6-0, 6-2 score.
