Timber Hines is the Senior Director of Recreation and Athletic Facilities. In this role she provides leadership and operational management for the George W. Woodruff Physical Education Center, 350,000 ft2 facility and the Student Activity & Academic Center, 44,000ft2 facility. The facilities include all indoor and outdoor Intercollegiate athletic and recreational venues. Timber also oversees the Department of Recreation and Wellness and serves as a member of the senior leadership team in Department of Athletics. In this role she leads 14 full time staff, four graduate assistants and over 150 student staff.

Timber arrived on the Emory campus in July 2006 after spending almost four years at Georgia State University’s Department of Recreational Services as the Aquatics Coordinator. Prior to her role at Georgia State, she was the Aquatic Specialist at Shepherd Center from 1996 to 2000. Her graduate assistantship at Georgia State University was in the Department of Kinesiology and Health from 2000 to 2002 as the Assistant to the Technical Officer of the International Paralympic Committee for Sydney 2000 Games and Salt Lake City 2002 Games. She received the Outstanding Graduate Student Award in Exercise Science.

She has served as the Georgia Recreational Sports Association (GRSA) as the Director-Elect (2014-2015), Director (2015-2017) and past Director (2017-2018). Timber has presented on numerous occasions and was on the Host Committee for the NIRSA Region 2 Conference in Atlanta in 2016. She serves on several committees with Emory’s Campus Life and was the recipient of the Campus Life Prolific Professional Award in 2011. 

Timber is a current member of the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) and a Registry for Collegiate Recreational Sports Professionals (RCRSP).  She is an American Heart Association CPR/AED/First Aid certified instructor, a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and a certified assistant scuba instructor with NAUI.

Timber earned her bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Georgia State University in 1996, and a masters in Exercise Science from Georgia State University in 2002.
