Emory University sophomores Christopher Stern and Richard Brereton were named the University Athletic Association Hitter and Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league office Monday evening.
Stern was outstanding for the Eagles at the plate as Emory opened the 2018 season with a doubleheader split at Piedmont on Saturday. In game one, Stern went 6-for-6 with a career-high four RBI, tying the Emory single-game record for hits. In the nightcap, Stern was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
Brereton recorded the first win for the Eagles in 2018, pitching five solid innings in the season opener. He allowed four runs (2 ER) while striking out four. Brereton added five hits at the plate during the double dip, going 5-for-8 with a triple and four runs scored.
Next up for the Eagles is a road contest at 10th-ranked LaGrange College Tuesday evening before returning to the diamond this weekend against Covenant College.
