Huntingdon Blanks Emory Baseball to Take Game One

Brooks Freeman and Jeremy Peterson combined for the shutout Friday night as Huntingdon College took the first game of the three-game series, 4-0, from the Emory University Baseball team at Posey Field in Montgomery, Alabama.

Freeman nearly went the distance, tossing 8.2 innings before being lifted for Peterson who recorded the final out after allowing an infield hit to senior Nick Chambers.

The Eagles recorded seven hits as a team on the evening with freshman Jack Rubenstein leading the way with two base knocks, finishing the contest 2-for-4. Classmate Michael Edelman was 1-for-3 with a stolen base and sophomore Christopher Stern added a double in a 1-for-4 effort.

Sophomore Richard Brereton fell to 4-4 on the mound, surrendering two runs (1 ER) on five hits in six innings of work. He struck out six and walked five in the outing.

The two teams now head to Atlanta to complete the weekend series with game two scheduled for a 2:00 PM first pitch on Saturday. Prior to the start of the game, the Eagles will honor the senior class of Chambers, Josh Rosenblatt, Mitch Kerner and Rhett Stuart with a special on-field ceremony. The ceremony will begin at 1:30 PM and can also be seen live on emoryathletics.com.
