Walk Parade: Eagles Draw School Record 19 Walks in 13-1 Win Over Oglethorpe

The Emory University Baseball team used a school record 19 walks to defeat Oglethorpe University, 13-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Chappell Park in Atlanta, GA.

12 different Emory batters reached base via a free pass in the contest, with the Eagles drawing at least one walk in every inning except the seventh frame. The previous school record for walks drawn was 16, set on March 9th, 2010 against Washington University.

Senior Bubby Terp only drew a single walk compared to a few of his Eagle teammates, but made his presence felt in the early innings, driving in four runs on two base hits within the first five innings, helping Emory build an eight run lead through the opening five frames.

Freshman Zeke Diamond earned three free passes, as he went 0-1 with two runs scored but saw his hitting streak snapped at 10 games. Junior Richard Brereton added a game-high three walks and was 1-for-1 with a run scored. Senior Eric Terry went 2-for-2 and had a run-scoring single in Emory's five-run fifth inning.

Freshman Bryant Wise pitched into the sixth inning as he recorded his first collegiate win. Wise did not allow a run in his 5+ innings of work, allowing three hits, four walks and striking out four. Sophomore Henry Dimlow was superb in relief, tossing two perfect innings to go along with four strike outs. Freshman Kyle Sulkowski added a scoreless ninth, stranding two hit-by-pitches and punching out one Stormy Petrel.

Emory returns to Chappell Park on Friday for the start of a four-game set against UAA-foe Case Western Reserve University. Game one is scheduled for 3:00 PM but please check emoryathletics.com for any potential weather related changes regarding the weekend series.
