Emory Baseball Closes Out Season with 6-5 Win Over Maryville

The Emory University baseball team closed out the 2021 season Tuesday afternoon by defeating Maryville College by a score of 6-5 at Chappell Park in Atlanta, GA. The Eagles finished the shortened season with a 7-5 overall record.

Emory jumped out to a 5-0 lead within the first two innings and never looked back for the victory. Michael Edelman plated the game's first run as he came across on a wild pitch in the first inning. In the second frame, the Eagles scored four times to extend the lead. Ryan Adelman and Drew Bartholow had back-to-back hit-by-pitches with the bases loaded to plate runs before Caleb Shulman had a run-scoring single later in the inning.

The Scots answered with a three spot in the third and another run in the fourth as they cut the lead to 5-4 and chased starter Jack Moore from the game.

After the Eagles were held scoreless for three innings, the team scored another run in the sixth as Edelman drove home Adelman with a single to left field.

The relief crew of Joey Bock, Mike Golob and Aaron Mishoulam were superb for the Eagles on the afternoon, holding the Scots to just one run across the final six innings. Bock tossed four shutout innings with six strikeouts as he improved to 4-0 while Mishoulam retired the final four hitters to record his third save of the season.

Adelman finished the day with a game-high three hits, going 3-for-3 with a RBI, two runs and a walk. Edelman added a multi-hit effort with 2-for-4 line with a RBI, run score and stolen base.

Emory plans to honor its 2021 senior class with an intrasquad game on Saturday, April 24th. Senior Day festivities will begin at 12:30pm with the game to follow and it will be broadcasted on emoryathletics.com. Please be sure to check the schedule page for any updates due to weather.
