Baseball Lands Five on All-UAA Team; Twardoski and Co. Named UAA Coaching Staff of the Year

The Emory University baseball team was well-represented on the All-University Athletic Association Team Wednesday afternoon, earning a total of six honors as voted on by the five league-member coaches.

Seniors Robby Wacker and Zeke Diamond claimed First Team selections with seniors Jack Moore, Kyle Sulkowski and junior Jack Masonis securing berths on the Second Team. In addition, Head Coach Mike Twardoski and assistants Bobby Perez and Sam Carpenter were tabbed the Association's Coaching Staff of the Year after guiding the team to a 25-13 record and share of the league's title after going 12-4 in conference play.

Wacker makes his second straight appearance on the All-UAA Team after a tremendous second season with the Eagles. Wacker started all 38 games as a senior, batting .353 and recorded team-highs with seven home runs and 44 RBI. He was an on-base machine, collecting a UAA-leading 36 walks and finished second in the conference with a .492 on-base percentage. He recorded at least one hit in 30 games and had a team-best 11 multi-RBI games including six contests with three RBI or more.

Diamond draws his second-career First Team selection and first since his freshman season after leading the Eagles with a .362 average in 38 games. He finished tied for the UAA lead with 59 hits and was second in the league with 43 runs scored while tying for second on the team with Wacker with 13 stolen bases. Diamond topped the squad with 18 multi-hit games including three four-hit efforts and finished the season with a nine-game hitting streak.

Masonis makes his first-ever appearance on the All-UAA Team, earning Second Team kudos following a junior campaign where he batted .296 across 37 games including 35 as a starter. Masonis racked up 42 hits, ranking third on the team, and finished tied for fifth in the UAA with 31 runs batted in to go along with 12 stolen bases. He turned it on during the final stretch, closing out the year with a 12-game hitting streak while driving in at least one run in 10 of those games.

Moore solidified the top of the starting rotation on his way to his first career All-UAA selection. Moore went 6-0 in 10 starts and struck out 46 batters in a team-leading 55 innings pitched. His six victories tied for first among UAA hurlers and was third in the league with his 3.93 earned run average.

Sulkowski joins Moore as the second member of the Eagles pitching staff to earn All-UAA acclaim. Sulkowski was a dominant force for the Eagles in the bullpen this year, going 5-1 with three saves across a team-best 20 appearances. He did not allow a run in 13 of his 20 outings and finished the year with 35 strikeouts in 27.1 innings pitched. He held opponents to a .152 batting average and compiled an ERA of 3.62.

Twardoski earns his second UAA Coaching Staff of the Year honor and first since 2016 as he along with Perez and Carpenter guided the Eagles to the most wins in a season in five seasons and a share of the conference championship for the first time since 2015. The Eagles closed the year with an 11-game conference winning streak, an overall record of 11-2 record in the month of April and finished with the most wins in conference play since the league shifted to the 16-game schedule in 2017.
