Emory Golf No. 7 In Bushnell Golfweek Preseason Poll

Emory Golf No. 7 In Bushnell Golfweek Preseason Poll

The Emory golf team will open the 2017-18 season as the No. 7-ranked Division III program. The Eagles were slotted at that position in the Bushnell Golfweek Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll.

Emory received one first-place vote and registered a total of 289 points. Holding down the No. 1 spot is the University of Texas-Tyler with three of the 17 first-place votes cast and 379 points.  Defending national champ Wittenberg University stands second, hauling in six first-place votes while totaling 367 points.  Methodist (351 pts.), Guilford (347 pts.), last year's national runner-up, and Huntingdon College (346 pts.) round out the top five.

Head coach John Sjoberg begins his sixth season at the helm of the Eagles' program with an experienced unit, welcoming back 11 veterans from last year's team that gained a berth to the NCAA D-III Championships, where it tied for 12th place.

Among those back in the fold are junior Stefano Butti and sophomore Matt Organisak, both of whom played their way to Second Team All-America accolades during 2016-17. Butti is the team's top returning scorer, averaging 73.9 strokes per round, while Organisak was right behind him at 74.1 strokes.

Emory opens the fall portion of its schedule, Sept. 17-18, when it competes at the 54-hole Rhodes Fall Invitational in Tunica, Mississippi.
