Emory Golf Finishes Ninth At Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational

The Emory golf program closed out the fall portion of its schedule on Tuesday, competing at the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational. The 54-hole event was held on the 6,736-yard, par 72 Stonebridge Golf Course in Rome, Georgia.  Serving as the host institution was Berry College.

With head coach John Sjoberg opting to send his second side to compete at the Invitational, the Eagles posted a ninth-place finish out of 13 teams with a team score of 913 (299-304-310).  The Oglethorpe "A" Team took home first-place honors with a mark of 866 (286-285-295), eight shots better than runner-up North Carolina Wesleyan (294-296-284).  Truett-McConnell University (888) and LaGrange College (895) rounded out the top five.

Freshman Davis Hingtgen closed out the tournament as Emory's top scorer with a six-over par effort of 222 (70-79-73), good for a 14th-place tie in the 68-player field. Hingtgen's two-under par 70 in the first round was the best score recorded by an Emory player in the competition.  Junior Anthony Muscato, tied for the No. 16 position on the leader board at 223 (71-75-77) while sophomores Leo Rich (80-73-79—232) and Vraj Patel (78-77-81—236) tied for 40th and 49th, respectively.

Jacob Arnett of Oglethorpe and Tanner Tabor from Millsaps tied for medalist honors at five-under par 211.

Emory will pack up the clubs until March 5-6, 2018, when it plays at the Tournament at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia.
