Emory Golf Posts School-Record Score At Golfweek DIII Fall Invite

The No. 1-ranked Emory University golf team established a school record  on Sunday during the first round of play at the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational.  The 54-hole tourney is being played on the 6,659-yard, par-71 Raven Golf Club in Sandestin, Florida.

The Eagles of Head Coach John Sjoberg fired a program record 272 over the opening 18 holes, leaving it at 12 under par.  Southwestern University stands in second place at two-under par 282. Carnegie Mellon posted a one-over par 285 while Huntingdon and North Carolina Wesleyan both checked in at 289.  Emory's mark of 272 bettered the school's previous standard of 274 set on March 31, 2012, at the Marine Federal Credit Union Tournament at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Emory saw four players beat par with three shooting in the 60s, highlighted by Eric Yiu's school-record tying effort of five-under par 66, good for first place in the 89-player field and that allowed him to join Stefano Butti, Nick Szem, Charles Raindre and Jason Scherr as other players in school history to have shot that score. Yiu ended the day with six birdies (five on the back nine en route to shooting a 31) and just one bogey.  Freshman Logan Ryan carded a season-best score of four-under 67, good for a second place tie on the leader board, picking up five birdies and one bogey. Senior Connor Yakubov came through with a 69, tying his second-best round of the season, highlighted by four birdies on the back nine that enabled him to come in at 32.  Junior Matt Organisak rounded out the team's scorers at one-under par 70.  Junior Sam Galloway ended the day at one-over par 72.

The second round will be held on Monday.
