The No. 1-ranked Emory University golf team finds itself in third place after the opening two rounds of the 29th annual Gordin Classic.  The 54-hole event is being played on the 7,098-yard, par-72 Columbus Country Club in Ohio.

After carding a team score of two-over par 290 over the first 18 holes of action, the Eagles regrouped to shoot a torrid 10-under 278, tying the program's fifth-best score, in the next round to close out the day at eight-under 568.  No. 2-ranked Illinois Wesleyan holds down the top spot after Monday's action with a 14-under par 562 (285-277) while Huntingdon College is three shots back at 565 (285-280).  The Tigers of Wittenberg University are one shot behind Emory after turning in marks of 289-280.  A total of 15 teams are competing in this year's Gordin Classic.

Leading the Emory effort on Monday was senior Matt Organisak whose six-under score of 138 (70-68) is tied for second in the 75-player field. Organisak posted a bogey-free second round while registering four of his eight birdies on the day. Sophomore Logan Ryan finds himself tied for 10th on the leader board after carding a two-under 142 (73-69) while sophomore Max Schwarz is close behind at 143 (73-70), good for the No. 15 slot.  Junior Eric Yiu (74-71—145) and senior Sam Galloway (75-71—146) are deadlocked for 28th and 32nd, respectively.  Bolstering the team's second-round performance were all five players shooting below par.

Drew Mathers of Huntingdon leads field after shooting a scorching 12-under par 132 (64-68).

The final round of the Gordin Classic is scheduled to be played on Tuesday.
