The No. 3-ranked Emory University men's golf team golf team completed its opening round of play at the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial on Monday. The 36-hole event is being played on the 6,743-yard, par-71 The Cardinal By Pete Dye Course in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The Eagles find themselves in the No. 5 spot out of the 22 competing squads after finishing with an 11-over par 295. There is a three-way tie for first place with Hampden-Sydney, host Guilford and Rensselaer Polytechnic all at six-over 290. Carnegie Mellon University stands one stroke ahead of Emory at 294.
Sophomores Max Schwarz and Logan Ryan led the Emory contingent with each player shooting one-over par 72, good for a ninth-place tie in the 120-player field. Schwarz totaled three birdies on the day while Ryan logged a pair. Junior Eric Yiu is the next Eagle to appear on the leader board with his three-over par 74 tying for 21st overall. Senior Matt Organisak closed out the scoring for Emory with a 77 while classmate Sam Galloway totaled 79.
James Mishoe of Guilford leads the field after turning in a three-under 68, one shot better than Joey Harrigan of Rensselaer Polytechnic.
The final round will be played on Tuesday.
