Emory Men's Golf Team Gears Up For Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

After competing at the Tiger Invitational last weekend, its first competitive action in over a year, the Emory University men's golf team continues its season, Mar. 19-21, when it takes part in the prestigious Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.  The 54-hole event will be played on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course, and serving as the host institution will be Oglethorpe University.

Emory, tied for the No. 2 spot in the latest Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, will be one of 22 schools in this year's talent-stacked field. Among the nationally ranked teams hitting the course include No. 2 Huntingdon, No. 5 Methodist, No. 6 Hampden-Sydney College, No. 11 Greensboro and No. 16 Oglethorpe.

"Jekyll Island is typically the best field of the year and it is again this season," said Emory Head Coach John Sjoberg.  "It is an awesome event, on a really fun golf course. We have had some good success there recently, so hopefully we can continue that trend.  We are looking forward on building from last weekend!"

The same Emory contingent that played at the Tiger Invitational, juniors Logan Ryan and Max Schwarz, senior Davis Hingtgen, sophomore Grant Drogosch and freshman Logan Lowery will travel to Jekyll Island.  The group posted a fifth-place finish out of 14 teams at the Tiger Invitational.

"We had a real solid start to the year," Sjoberg stated.  "We did a lot of things well, especially for a young group.  We need to clean up a few mistakes that lead to big numbers and putt it a little better. That will put us right where we want to be this weekend."
