The Emory University men's golf team wrapped up play on Sunday at the Jekyll Island Collegiate. The 54-hole tournament was played on the 6,700-yard, par-72 Pine Lakes Course at the Jekyll Island Golf Club.
The No. 2-ranked Eagles turned in a final-round score of 298 to finish with a mark of 880 (285-297-298), good for third place out of 25 teams. No. 8-ranked Guilford played its way to first-place honors at 865 (284-284-297), six shots better than runner-up Huntingdon College (292-281-298--871). No. 1-ranked Illinois Wesleyan captured fourth place with a total of 884 (294-299-291).
Once again, junior Max Schwarz spearheaded the Eagles' contigent, shooting an even-par 72, his fifth consecutive outing of par or better this spring. For the second straight day, Schwarz finished with five birdies. Sophomore Grant Drogosch carded a two-over par 74 while junior Logan Ryan was a shot behind at 77. Senior Davis Hingtgen rounded out the Emory scorers with a 77. Logan Lowery checked in with an 84.
For the tournament, Schwarz led Emory and tied for second out of 133 competitors with a four-under 212, tying the program's 11th-best score for a three-round tournament. Schwarz logged a total of 13 birdies over the weekend, tying the second-highest total in the field. Ryan (76-74-75) and Drogosch (74-77-74) tied for 31st overall at 225 while Hingten was slotted 41st with a 227 (73-77-77). Lowery's mark of 228 (68-76-84) tied for 43rd.
James Mishoe of Guilford led all players with a performance of eight-under par 208.
Emory returns to action the weekend of Apr. 2-4 when it competes at the Golfweek Invitational in Howie-in-the-Hills, Florida.
