The Emory men's golf team participated in the opening round of the NCAA D-III Championships on Tuesday. This year's Championships are being played at the Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, West Virginia.
Playing on the 6,621-yard, par 70 Palmer Course, the Eagles find themselves tied for fourth place out of 37 teams after the first 18 holes of action after posting a team score of 16-over 296. Illinois Wesleyan holds down the top spot while Huntingdon College is second. Joining Emory in the No. 4 slot are St. Thomas (MN), Piedmont College, Carnegie Mellon and Methodist University.
Davis Hingtgen paced the Emory effort with a two-over par 72, good an eighth-place tie out of 191 players. Junior Max Schwarz and freshman Logan Lowery each carded 73s, with Lowery registering a total of five birdies on the day, tying for the second-highest total. Junior Logan Ryan rounded out the team's scoring with a 78. Sophomore Grant Drogosch ended with an 85.
On Wednesday, Emory plays the second round of the Championships on the 6,857-yard, par-71 Jones Course. After 36 holes, the field will be cut to the top 18 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams.
