The Emory men's golf team turned in an outstanding effort during third-round play Thursday at the NCAA D-III Championships.  This year's Championships are being played at the Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, West Virginia.

Heading into its round in the No. 8 spot and playing on the 6,857-yard, par 71 Jones Course, the Eagles posted a team score of 290, leaving them with a three-day total of 886, good for fifth place out of the remaining 18 teams competing. Emory's effort of 290 represented the program's third-best ever score at the NCAA Championships.  Illinois Wesleyan remains atop the leader board at 863 (290-286-287), 15 strokes ahead of Methodist University (300-281-297—878). Denison University is third with a mark of 880 (305-285-290).

Sophomore Grant Drogosch was the story for Emory as he fired a field-best score of two-under 69, tying former standout Matt Organisak for the school's second-best individual performance at the NCAAs (Connor Yakubov sets the standard with a 68 at the 2018 tourney). Included in his round were four birdies and two bogeys.  Junior Max Schwarz came through with his best score of the week with a one-over par 72, which saw him dial up four birdies. Junior Logan Ryan carded a 72 as well, while senior Davis Hingtgen rounded out the Eagles' scoring efforts with a 77.  Freshman Logan Lowery shot an 83.

For the tournament, Hingtgen is tied for 24th place with a 54-hole score of 223 (72-74-77). Schwarz's total of 224 (73-79-72) ties for 26th while Drogosch is 35th at 225 (85-71-69).  Ryan and Lowery are at 228 and 233, respectively.

The final round of the Championships will be played on Friday with the Eagles scheduled to tee off at 8:20 am.
